Stratigraphy (more...)

The rock types present in the Queen Charlotte Basin represent all the necessary elements for oil and gas generation. Possible source rocks are in the Late Triassic / Lower Jurassic Kunga-Maude, the Middle to Late Cretaceous and the Neogene Skonun strata. Reservoir strata are expected to be in the Upper Jurassic-Creatceous Queen Charlotte Group and the Skonun Group.

Stratigraphy

- understanding the distribution, deposition and age relationships between layers of sedimentary rocks

Stratigraphy of the Queen Charlotte Basin

- several kilometers (approximately 4.6) thick of varying rocks types dating back to over 250 million years old
- the main oil and gas exploration targets are sandstones with porosities between 25-35%

- the likely source rocks are limestones, sandstones and shales that are Triassic and Jurassic in age
